Philips Lighting is a world leader in the development and sales of innovative lighting products. Philip’s North American headquarters in Somerset, NJ serves as a training center for lighting professionals to learn of the latest techniques and products. The Education Theatre essentially comprises two main components: the theatre itself (also known as the Lighting Application Center, or LAC) and an outer reception room known as Philips Hall.
Farewell Mills Gatsch Architects, LLC (FMG) worked with Philips to design a new LAC and reception space that would both utilize the existing space to its greatest advantage and demonstrate Philips’ leadership in lighting design.
FMG redefined the entry sequence by creating a “future of light” exhibition in Philips Hall that provides a gradual transition from the outer lobby of the building to the Lighting Application Center. The LAC features four educational theatres, utilized sequentially, each of which focuses on a different theme of light and the way it is perceived in a variety of settings and applications.
