As part of an overall revitalization effort in Atlantic City, the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority renovated the major arteries leading to the new Atlantic City Convention Center and the famed Boardwalk. The Atlantic City Corridor project included landscaped parks, new roadways, sidewalks, and streetscape improvements.
The central feature of the new park is a 90 foot high sculpture entitled "From the Lighthouse." This steel, glass, and fabric sculpture, by special cyber lights from around the site, acts as a beacon for travelers and as a gateway to the city. The base of the sculpture, a spiraling complex of walks, walls, fountains, and jetties draws visitors up to the low promontory of the site where the poem "From the Lighthouse" by poet Patricia Farewell is inscribed in bluestone panels.
The spiraling fabric that shrouds the piece is part cloud and part sail, and rises up to the lantern, which projects beams of light into the urban sky.
