An architect's office should reflect the design sensibilities and work experience of the firm that occupies and creates within that space. FMG architects has done just that by restoring and renovating Princeton University's Chemical Sciences building for the firm's new office space.

The project began with the exterior restoration and interior renovation for the entire building. New systems were installed in the building, as well as core facilities such as restrooms and an elevator. FMG then decided to relocate to the building to become its first tenant.

The layout was designed to be open, fostering interaction amongst the staff. Since sustainable design is an important value for the firm, green features were utilized to the extent possible. The building's existing, large operable windows allow for plenty of day lighting and fresh air; other features include metered faucets and zero CFC. Materials selection included green seal carpeting, low VOC paints, and work stations made of wheat board, a highly renewable resource.
