The Dorothy Young Center for the Performing Arts is a new choral and orchestral music performance and rehearsal facility located prominently within the historic Drew University campus in Madison, New Jersey. Farewell Mills Gatsch Architects, LLC initially investigated three concept options for the building, ranging from a 300- to 450-seat performance space with combined support and academic facilities, including choral and instrument rehearsal rooms, robing and dressing rooms, lobby, and storage.
A 450-seat hall with a lobby connecting to the existing arts and theater wing was constructed. The addition is sited adjacent to the campus' historic forest, in view of Drew's main campus building, Mead Hall. The new hall, which incorporates state of the art architectural acoustic design, serves as a teaching and performance space for the University's accomplished music department, and provides a resource for the community and surrounding region.
